A Ending coming at BYU Idaho

I have 10 days left at BYU Idaho. Then I am off at BYU! It is making me sad seeing the campus and friends that I will miss. I keep telling myself that the change will be good for me. I know it will. I will always hold a special place for BYU Idaho. It has treated me well :) Except for the boys...but...thats okay!

I will miss the campus, my teachers, my past roommates, the I center, devotional days, going to grandpas, my nice apartment, and the fact that everything is walking distance. Well...it is bed time, but I am going to enjoy my last 10 days at BYU Idaho!

Life After Grad School

Happy news. I graduated in May and I haven't posted about anything, so here comes my life after grad school post. My graduation weekend was unlike anything other. I graduated on May 21st, 2016, the day after my birthday. I turned 25 and then the day after I graduated with my MSW. It was going to be the happiest and most eventful weekend during the summer and then....I got hand foot and mouth disease! It is a children's disease but I guess I got it from my internship. I don't recommend getting if you ever have the choice :) Nonetheless, graduation happened and then my post school life began. I had the summer off and had plenty of time to travel and go to Girls Camp and the Stake Youth Trek. I finished my year off at my internship and then enjoyed the summer. We went to Hawaii for a week and explored the main island. We hiked, visited the volcano, soaked up the sun on beaches, snorkled with sea turtles, ate fish and looked at waterfalls. The Start of the Healing Process

I had an experience the other day with one of my students left me emotionally exhausted but it taught me so much about healing and the start of that process.  Healing is something that happens throughout the therapeutic relationship as you develop rapport. Healing occurs when the client is comfortable sharing information they have withheld because of whatever barrier held them back before. Healing is not something that happens overnight. Healing involves people, it is not a individualistic thing for the most part.  I was working with one of my students who was tough. He had a hard egg shell you could say and breaking his egg shell to where he could smile at you was difficult. A lot of times, people will look at these people and say that they are hopeless because they will never open up and continue to have behavior problems. What It Really Means to be a Social Worker

I completed my first year of school...this time I got paid for it! Like I have said, I am working for a school district and this was my first year of being the "real deal". As I was reflecting on my last year as being a mental health therapist, I was thinking of memories from this year. I have gained many more stories to my collection of all varieties. Some stories are too sad to share on this blog and some are hilarious.
