Spiritual Tattoo
I saw a commercial for a tattoo show on tv and I was thinking to myself, "I am so glad that we don't wear tattoos". When I talk about "we", I am talking about mormons just so know. I then had the thought that we do have spiritual tattoos. Let me explain about what I mean when I say this. A tattoo is a permanent mark on your skin. It is something that tends to define your appearance. People judge you on your tattoo an try to understand your character based on where your tattoo is located and what the tattoo's image is. Tattoo's are a powerful image that is a representation of who you are. Why do people get a tattoo of a skull? They think that the skull represents a important part of them and they want to share it with others.
The gospel is our tattoo. We don't have a tangible tattoo that says, "I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". We have intangible tattoo that is signified by the light of Jesus Christ that we carry. As our testimonies grow in the church, we have a light that shines to others. People notice the light that we shine and talk to us because we have a light that separates us.
I don't know the scripture and again too lazy to look it up (sorry again), but in the Book of Mormon, it talks about the mark that we carry. We have a mark that distinguishes us from others. People know that we are different. We are meant to be different because otherwise people wouldn't have questions about the gospel. We may have tangible tattoo's that we purposely wear. Some of these include the garment, the CTR ring and modest clothing. We wear the CTR ring to let others know that we represent Christ just like others have a tattoo to represent their personality.
I think it's important to realize we do have a power even if we are not a full time missionary. Every LDS member has a spiritual tattoo. The first step is to recognize what your spiritual tattoo is. Realize the purpose of the spiritual tattoo. Realize the power that the spiritual tattoo holds. Then act and don't be afraid to represent what the spiritual tattoo represents (which is ultimately Jesus Christ). If someone is fearful about their spiritual tattoo, pray to be courageous. And one more thing about spiritual tattoo's, they may not be permanent but they can be. If we work hard to keep the tattoo's strong, then we can have them permanent. Our testimonies take time to become strong. So, just because you have a testimony now, dosen't mean that you can slack off next week. Or in a month. Or anytime. It is a life long process to have a strong testimony.
So, I encourage all of you to think about what power you hold and who you represent. If you think you only represent yourself, then you are wrong. You represent a being much greater than you who loves you.
