It is my favorite time of the year....The Bachelor Season is on
Here are things I notice about this show. I know that it is absolutely ridiculous but it is so entertaining to watch that I am drawn to it! I like to make social commentary out of the show and the characters in the show. (Lets face it...they are characters in a drama)
It is interesting to see how different personalities will conflict with each other. There is a lot of contention and drama that stems from competition insecurities. There are a lot of girls who pretend to be a "better self". For example, this girl said tonight that she doesn't like wearing make-up and that usually dirt is her make-up. Of course, she would say this after she found out that Ben is a country boy and drives a tractor. You tailor your answers to convince the Bachelor you are the right person for them. Of course these techniques are used with advertising and job marketing, but the thing is what if you are selling the wrong product to the Bachelor? He picks you for the final rose but he thinks that you are the product that you were selling during the show. Over real life experiences, the real you will come out and those characteristics are proven false.
I find it interesting watching the proactive competitive girls and how they conflict with the shy girls. The proactive ones steal the Bachelor away and try to win his heart with a aggressive mindset. They are desperate for his love in order to gain a rose and/or private one and one date. The shy girls will wait and seem to be more sincere. (This is just my bias). It seems like the really aggressive candidates always win and then the relationships never last. Poor shy girls just never seem to get their break. I see how they work hard in order to win the Bachelor's heart but most of them don't succeed. The Bachelor says that "they didn't put themselves out their enough". I understand this concept, but how can you put yourself out there after knowing someone for a couple hours? It is impossible to truly capture the essence of a individual after a couple of hours. This whole idea of trying to find your soul mate is ridiculous when you are put in these short time periods and amazing expensive dates. In real life, people don't fly out to China to have a picnic in the mountains and later make out in a spa in a expensive condo.
Another thing that I find interesting about the show is the emotional reactions. When the girls are rejected, they cry to the camera saying that there is no hope for their love life. How are they ever going to find love again? The thing is they are getting so much public notice by being on public television. People may think they are attractive and try to contact them after the show. Additionally, most girls are still young and attractive. They have hope to meet someone as their life's are not over. I think most girls are in need of Cognitive Emotional Behavioral Therapy. I know that we can be dramatic in some moments, but it seems like there are a lot of extremities and dramatic endings and beginnings in this show. If you are looking for a show full of drama and ridiculousness, watch the Bachelor!
