Butch and Me
I watched the movie "Marley and me" and I loved it. I cried and laughed throughout the whole movie. The movie is about this young family growing up with a dog. I am a dog person completely. I love my dog. I have a golden retriever. He is almost 18 in August. He has a line on his nose that is a "flaw". This "flaw" is endearing and I love him more because of his line on his nose. He loved chasing after the tennis ball when he was younger but now he has no more energy. He loves people. He is a protector, lover, listener, professional ball chaser and part of my family. One of the reasons why I loved this movie was the fact that I grew up with Butch and Brita. Brita was a elkhound who loved chasing birds. She died on my 8th birthday from a heart attack. Brita was a runner and would always run whenever she could.
As I was thinking back on my memories with my dog. There was one part in the movie, when the wife had a miscarriage. The husband was trying to fix the problem, but the dog just laid his head on her knee and she cried with the dog. I know that dog's can read human emotions. I don't have scientific evidence, but I know that dogs love their families and know what they are currently feeling. I remember sometimes Butch was my counselor. Whenever I was crying after having a bad day, I would simply go cry and he would just lie with me and give me those puppy eyes. I know that Butch could understand that I was sad.
Another part of the movie was how the dog was protecting the family. Butch is not a violent dog who would attack. He is a watchdog for our families in some ways. I remember one night Butch was barking like crazy. My mom went downstairs and found out that the laundry room door was open. He was trying to protect us from someone breaking into the house.
In the movie, it showed the dog playing the kids. The kids loved the dog, and the dog was simply another part of their family. I completely understand that feeling. When you grow up with the dog your whole life, it becomes another family member. I remember coming home from college and being so excited to see my dog. Spending time with my dog was precious time. Of course, he seemed to want food more than spending times with me sometimes (they are still animals). Golden retrievers are perfect dogs for kids because they are lovable and friendly. You have a best friend with you at all times.
So, I know this is coming from a dog lover. Dogs are my favorite animal. They are loyal, fun, family friendly, playful, caring and loving. When I get married, I will have a dog that my children can play with.
I love my dog. I will love my future dog. Dogs are celestial beings. This movie, Marley and Me, portrayed that emotion perfectly.
