Media and Female Image
In my last couple of classes we have been talking about eating disorders. It has been really interesting and eye-opening. The society makes this body type as the "ideal" when in reality it is idealistic. We can' all look like supermodels. Do you know why? Supermodels don't look like supermodels.
The ads in magazines are not real. We are comparing ourselves to edited images. This is why we have bad dieting patterns and low self esteems. We compare ourselves to the impossible. We don't meet the high standards and then we become disappointed. It is this vicious cycle where we try to reach societies standards, fail, feel guilty and binge because we are stressed, and then get more motivation to reach societies standards.
It is so sad. I want to change this nice media problem, but I have no idea how to. I know that many people try to show different views on beauty. I just am passionate to let others know that media is not presenting a reasonable image and way for us to look. We can't look like them because if you saw them in real life, they wouldn't look like that. I do admire the stars that refuse to be changed in their pictures. They don't want people to change their shape. That is admirable to me because they are making a important point. The point that media is trying to enforce a impossible image.
